LeBron James is set to reunite with fellow US Olympic stars Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry after they were named in a powerful NBA All-Star line-up announced on Tuesday. The trio, who helped the United States win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, headline one of the teams for this year’s revamped All-Star Game in Los Angeles on February 15.
The NBA has introduced a new All-Star format featuring three teams — two made up of American players and one consisting of international stars. The teams will compete in a round-robin mini-tournament, with the top two advancing to a final showdown to determine the winner.
James, Curry and Durant will play for a team dubbed “USA Stripes,” alongside Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson and Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard. Cleveland Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell and Miami Heat’s Norman Powell complete the roster.
Another American side, “USA Stars,” includes Detroit Pistons’ Cade Cunningham, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards and Oklahoma City Thunder’s Chet Holmgren. They are joined by Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker, Philadelphia 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey and Detroit’s Jalen Duren.
The international “World” team is led by reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Canada, Slovenia’s Luka Doncic and France’s Victor Wembanyama. The squad also features Denver Nuggets centre Nikola Jokic, setting the stage for a highly competitive and star-studded All-Star event.
