LIONEL MESSI HAS DECIDED TO STAY IN BARCELONA TILL NEXT SEASON

Its was a shocking news when Lionel Messi decided to part ways with the La Liga giants Barcelona on the 25th of August as he told the club of his desires to leave by triggering the “get out” clause in his contract allowing him to leave the club for free. The Argentine forward was told to stay by Barcelona sporting director as they plan to build the team around him, Messi turned down their offer and insisted on leaving the team as teammate and friend Luis Suarez is also on his way out of the club.

Messi had believed that a clause in his contract will allow him to leave for free this summer, but La liga and Barcelona insisted that the €700m release clause would be payed in full.

“I thought and was sure that I was free to leave, the president always said that at the end of the season I could decide if I stayed or not,” Messi explained to Goal.

“Now they cling to the fact that I did not say it before June 10, when it turns out that on June 10 we were competing for La Liga in the middle of this awful coronavirus and this disease altered all the season.

“And this is the reason why I am going to continue in the club. Now I am going to continue in the club because the president told me that the only way to leave was to pay the €700m (£624m) clause, and that this is impossible.”
