Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Chelsea Make Rooney’s Top Four

Date:

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has predicted that Liverpool will win the Premier League for the second consecutive season.

Speaking on BBC Sport’s Match of the Day, the 39-year-old backed Jürgen Klopp’s side to defend the title they claimed last term, when they finished 10 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table.

Rooney believes Arsenal will once again settle for second place, with Manchester City and Chelsea completing the top four.

For his former club Manchester United, who endured a disappointing 2024/25 campaign and finished 15th, Rooney expects a significant improvement under new manager Rúben Amorim. He predicts the Red Devils will climb to fifth place in the coming season.

“I still think they need one or two more signings,” Rooney said of United. “But I can see what Amorim is doing. It’s looking better for United. I think they can sneak into the top five.”

The 2025/26 Premier League season kicks off this weekend, with Liverpool starting their title defence away to newly promoted Ipswich Town.
