Liverpool stay perfect, Arsenal taste first defeat

Date:

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has criticised new signing Eberechi Eze after the Gunners suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

The decisive moment came in the first half when Dominik Szoboszlai unleashed a powerful strike from over 30 yards, handing the Reds all three points and extending their perfect start to the season.

Speaking after the game, Arteta expressed his frustration with Eze, who failed to take a clear chance that could have brought Arsenal level. The Spanish coach insisted that such opportunities must be converted if the team wants to compete at the highest level.

Eze, who joined Arsenal from Crystal Palace in a £67.5m transfer this summer, made his debut in the match. He came on as a substitute for Gabriel Martinelli in the 70th minute and almost made an instant impact but missed a golden opportunity to score.

“You have to put the ball in the back of the net,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “We had three, four, five situations inside the box one-vs-one. Eze is completely through, just to finish the action. You have to score if you want to win.”

The result marked Arsenal’s first defeat of the new campaign after winning their opening two games. Liverpool, meanwhile, remain top of the table with a perfect nine points from their first three fixtures.
