Morocco made history on Monday morning by defeating Argentina to clinch the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup title at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos.
The North Africans, who have been one of the tournament’s standout teams, secured a 2–0 victory thanks to a brilliant first-half brace from Yassir Zabiri.
Zabiri, the 20-year-old winger who plays for Famalicão in Portugal, opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a composed finish that put Morocco in front. He doubled the lead shortly after, capitalising on Argentina’s defensive lapse to make it 2–0 before the break.
Despite Argentina’s efforts to stage a comeback in the second half, Morocco’s defence held firm to preserve their lead and claim their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup trophy after 90 minutes of intense action.
The triumph marks a historic milestone for African football, as Morocco became the first African nation to win the prestigious tournament.
In the semi-finals, Morocco had defeated France, while Argentina booked their place in the final by overcoming Colombia. Earlier on Sunday, Colombia sealed third place with a narrow 1–0 victory over France.
With this victory, Morocco have etched their name in the record books, capping off a remarkable campaign defined by teamwork, discipline, and clinical finishing.
