Four people, including popular music artiste Matthew Ogundele, were found dead on February 4 in a Lagos studio at HFP Shopping Complex, Abraham Adesanya, Ajah. The other victims were identified as Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya, also known as JoesTv.
The group had performed at a three-day birthday praise event allegedly organised by the studio owner, Olanireti Akinbola, on February 3. After their performance, they reportedly decided to sleep in the studio overnight. Their bodies were discovered the following morning by the studio ownerβs husband, who noticed something was wrong after repeated knocks went unanswered.
Sources suggest that a generator placed opposite the room where they slept may have caused suffocation, though police have not confirmed the cause of death. Reports indicate that the victims were found unresponsive, with blood observed from their nostrils, ears, and mouth, but no signs of external injury.
Lagos State Police confirmed the incident. Spokesperson Superintendent Abimbola Adebisi said the case was reported at Ajah Division and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba. One suspect, identified as the event organiser, is currently in custody, and authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
