NACA to Convene 7th National Council on AIDS in Lagos

Date:

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) will host the 7th National Council on AIDS (NCA) meeting in collaboration with the Lagos State Agency for the Control of AIDS in August 2025.

Themed “Advancing National HIV Sustainability Agenda in the Changing Global Policy on Aid,” the high-level meeting will focus on ensuring Nigeria’s HIV response remains resilient and accessible amid evolving donor support, according to NACA Director-General and Council Chair, Dr. Temitope Ilori.

Dr. Ilori described the upcoming meeting as a crucial platform for stakeholders across government, civil society, and development agencies to forge sustainable strategies for HIV prevention, treatment, and care, especially in light of shifting global aid dynamics.

A statement by the Planning Committee Chair, Dr. Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that the 7th Council will review progress on previous resolutions, consolidate sustainability efforts, and set technical direction for the future. Delegates from all 36 states and the FCT are expected to attend.

Key agenda items include:

  • Advancing the National HIV Sustainability Agenda
  • Multi-sectoral approaches to sustaining HIV and related health programs
  • Strengthening sub-national structures for better health outcomes
  • A review of the 6th NCA resolutions and updates on their implementation

Stakeholders will also be invited to submit policy and implementation memoranda for consideration during the Council.

The event will feature a two-day technical session, a one-day Council deliberation, and a closing communique outlining key decisions. A special gala night hosted by the Lagos State Governor will honour major contributors and celebrate milestones in Nigeria’s HIV response.
