New Naira notes: Police warn against violence

Police command in Lagos State says it has uncovered plans by some persons to take advantage of the new Naira notes scarcity to unleash violence in some parts of the state.

The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Monday.

“The Command hereby warns these groups to shelve their planned violence or have the full weight of the law to contend with,” he said.

On the show of force on Monday by some security agencies in the state, Hundeyin urged the residents and visitors not to panic as the Police, in conjunction with other security agencies were embarking on confidence-building patrols across the Lagos metropolis.

He called on all law-abiding people in Lagos to go about their lawful duties without any fear of harassment or intimidation.

The spokesman assured the residents of optimal deployment of human and operational resources towards guaranteeing their safety and security.

The police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Directorate of State Security were seen on Monday morning in a long convoy for a show of force in different parts of the Lagos.
