New Tax Platform Launches, Promoting Compliance Among Firms

Date:

Businesses across Nigeria have been urged to begin transitioning to the country’s new e-invoicing regime with the official launch of UsawaConnect, a compliance-focused platform developed by Pillarcraft Cloud Solutions. The system aims to help organisations align with evolving tax regulations that require digital validation and electronic transmission of invoices through authorised government channels.

The launch comes amid concerns that many Nigerian businesses are not fully prepared for the sweeping changes under the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) e-invoicing framework, which mandates digitally structured invoices with unique reference identifiers validated and transmitted electronically to be recognised for tax and business purposes.

The transition is being rolled out in phases. Large taxpayers with annual turnovers of N5 billion and above are already under enforcement, while medium-sized businesses with turnovers between N1 billion and N5 billion must comply by July 2026, ahead of full enforcement in January 2027. Non-compliance could result in invoice rejection, delayed payments, operational disruptions, and increased audit scrutiny.

Pillarcraft Cloud Solutions CEO Bayode Agbi highlighted that many businesses lack the technical capacity to implement the new system independently. To address this, the company launched the UsawaConnect Partner Programme, enabling accounting firms and consultants to guide clients through compliance processes and develop advisory services.

The platform integrates with existing accounting, ERP, and point-of-sale systems, allowing SMEs to generate and transmit compliant invoices automatically without major system overhauls. Agbi noted that accountants, tax practitioners, and technology consultants will play a central role in the transition, helping businesses stay compliant efficiently while minimising disruptions.
