1. Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) on Tuesday, ended the industrial action against Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) over the sacking of 34 members of the union without due process. Mr Frances Akinjole, Deputy General Secretary of the union, said this in a statement made in Lagos on Wednesday. There was heavy traffic on the link road leading to the international terminal when ATSSSAN shut down MMA2 terminal at the early hours on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The face-off affected passengers as several of them were forced to miss their flight due to the actions of the union.
2. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no pending petition or criminal matters with the Police, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman, has said. This is contained in a counter affidavit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja by Usman’s counsel, Mr. Wisdom Madaki.
3. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a Kogi State House of Assembly candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ismaila Yusuf Atumey, with N326million and $ 140,500 cash. Atumeyi, who is seeking to represent Ankpa 11 Constituency in the State Assembly, was arrested on Sunday.
4. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday carried out simultaneous operations against Bureau de Change operators in Abuja and Kano, as the Naira slumped to N857 to a dollar at the parallel market. The raid would be extended to other major cities across the country.
5. There are indications that the police might conduct an autopsy to determine whether Ifeanyi Adeleke, son of popular music artiste, Davido, and his fiancée, Chioma Rowland, died as a result of drowning in a swimming pool at his father’s residence in the Banana Island area of Lagos State.
6. Elon Musk, the sole director of Twitter, has announced a slash of the Twitter verification fee from $20 per month to $8 per month. The billionaire rolled out the benefits of owning a paid verified handle as a priority in replies, mentions and searches, which he said will help defeat scams. He also noted the fee would enable Twitter to reward content creators.
7. The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Tuesday, took a swipe at the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party, Peter Obi, whom they said lacked the antecedent and experience to lead the country.
The duo spoke while presenting his action plan before the business community and the organised private sector in Lagos on Tuesday. Speaking at the meeting, the former governor of Lagos said if elected president in 2023, his administration will hit a double-figure gross domestic product. According to a statement by the Tinubu Media Office, signed by Tunde Rahman, the presidential candidate said attaining the feat was possible having achieved similar economic success when he governed Lagos State.
8. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday carried out simultaneous operations against Bureau de Change operators in Abuja and Kano, as the Naira slumped to N857 to a dollar at the parallel market.
The raids in the two cities, which netted a good number of illegal BDC operators and individuals suspected to be customers, would also be extended to Lagos, Onitsha, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and other major cities across the country. The incident disrupted the day’s business as many of the BDC operators in Abuja went underground.
9. There are indications that the police might conduct an autopsy to determine whether Ifeanyi Adeleke, son of popular music artiste, Davido, and his fiancée, Chioma Rowland, died as a result of drowning in a swimming pool at his father’s residence in the Banana Island area of Lagos State. A source confirmed the development, saying it was standard practice for the police to conduct an autopsy in such a case, adding, however, that the police would desist from the move if the deceased family members were against it.
10. The Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Kayode Alabi, has lost his aide, Kehinde Obafemi, describing the death of his Chief Detail, as a rude shock. This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor. According to the statement, Obafemi died on Sunday, October 30, 2022, during a brief illness.
