Late Prof. Lanre Badmas

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, HFNIM, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned Islamic scholar, Professor Yusuf Lanre Badmas.

Professor Badmas, an indigene of Ilorin in Kwara State, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026.

In his reaction, the Sultan described the late professor as an academic titan whose loss would be deeply felt across Nigeria, Kwara State, and the Muslim Ummah. “Professor Lanre Badmas was a great friend, a brother, and a highly accomplished scholar in both academic and Islamic knowledge. We shared a long relationship, and his contributions to education, as well as to the peace and unity initiatives we are passionately pursuing in Nigeria, will not be forgotten anytime soon. He was truly a great man,” the Sultan said.

The Sultan offered prayers for the repose of the deceased, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him admission into Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The condolence message was contained in a statement issued by the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto on Friday night.
