The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to commemorate 70 years of women’s participation in policing, with events scheduled for December 3 and 4, 2025.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, noting that the celebration would mark seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedication to national service since the enlistment of the first set of policewomen in 1955.

According to Hundeyin, the milestone highlights the critical role women have played in strengthening law enforcement and fostering public trust across the country.

He said the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, would join serving and retired female officers to celebrate the historic occasion.

Hundeyin quoted Egbetokun as commending the invaluable contributions of women officers to the operational efficiency and public image of the force.

“The dedication and compassion of women in policing have continued to be integral to the foundation of the Nigeria Police Force. Over the past seven decades, female officers have excelled in various capacities — from administration and investigation to tactical operations and command leadership,” the IGP said.

He added that women in the police have consistently demonstrated integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation, helping to redefine policing with compassion and purpose.

The 70th-anniversary celebration will feature a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme.

Hundeyin noted that the event reflects the IGP’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development among women in the force.

“The Nigeria Police Force extends heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, past and present, whose courage and professionalism continue to inspire pride within the institution and the nation at large,” the statement concluded.
