President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian artistes who emerged winners at the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), describing their success as proof of the continued growth and global recognition of Nigeria’s music and creative industry.

The President said the artistes’ achievements at the continental awards reflect the creativity, resilience and talent of Nigerian youths, noting that their victories have further strengthened Nigeria’s cultural influence across Africa and beyond.

Nigeria recorded a strong showing at the awards, held from January 7 to 11, 2026, in Lagos. Rema won Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African RnB & Soul, while Burna Boy clinched Album of the Year. Shallipopi won Song of the Year and Best African Collaboration, Phyno received Best African Hip-Hop, Qing Madi emerged Most Promising Artiste, Yemi Alade won Best Soundtrack, Chella picked up African Fans’ Favourite, and Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye were honoured with the AFRIMA Legendary Award.

In a statement, Tinubu said the wins were the result of years of hard work and consistency, adding that platforms like AFRIMA provide opportunities for African talents to compete globally and showcase the continent’s rich culture. He urged the artistes to continue using their talents to inspire unity, pride and economic growth.

The President also commended Lagos State for successfully hosting the event, describing it as Africa’s creative and entertainment capital, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and the development of Nigeria’s creative economy, including music, film and fashion.
