Nigerian singer Iyanya has opened up about how his career has affected his love life, revealing that he is still single at 39. He explained that past relationships with women who threatened to tarnish his image during conflicts left him traumatised and with commitment issues.
Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, the ‘Kukere’ hitmaker said he is not currently considering marriage or a serious relationship, noting that he is not mentally ready. He added that those who are patient and supportive may have a chance once he reaches a convenient space.
Iyanya explained that being a celebrity made his relationships particularly challenging, as misunderstandings with partners often ended up on blogs. These experiences made it difficult for him to trust fully and commit, despite having genuine emotions for the women he dated.
The singer said he has embraced celibacy as a way to cope with his struggles with commitment. However, he admitted that maintaining celibacy consistently remains a challenge for him.
Iyanya’s reflections highlight the pressures of fame on personal relationships, illustrating how public scrutiny and past experiences can impact emotional well-being and romantic decisions.
