No fewer than 65 graduands were awarded certificates at the 8th NILDS- UNIBEN postgraduate and 3rd NILDS Higher National Diploma Programmes.
ROYAL NEWS gathered that five distinguished Nigerians including former Head of State General Abdulsalam Abubakar, former president of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, former Speaker House of Representatives, Rt.Hon Yakubu Dogara, former Deputy Chief Whip, House of Representatives, Hon.Nkeiruka Onyejeocha and an educationist, Professor Mike Idiahi Obadan were also conferred with NILDS Fellowship Award.
At the event, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, assured that the 10th National Assembly will not relent in coming up with legislations and initiatives to take out of school children off the streets.
Akpabio who is also the Chairman of NILDS Governing Council, was represented by his deputy, Sen.Barau Jibrin. He commended the Director General NILDS, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, for raising the bar of excellence in manpower development.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who was represented by the Chairman House Committee, on South East Development Commision, Professor Paul Nnamechi, hailed NILDS for bridging capacity gaps in the Legislative functions.
He recognised the accomplishments of the graduands and commended the Institute and the University of Benin in advancing the nation’s Democratic and academic landscapes.
In his remarks, NILDS DG, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, vouched for the graduands in Learning and Character as well as urged them to remain good ambassadors of the Institute.
While assuring that NILDS-UNIBEN Collaboration will be taken to the next level, the DG said said the appointment of the new UNIBEN Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN attests to the high calibre status of the Manpower assets of the Institute which he described as the fulcrum of Legislative Studies in Nigeria and beyond in Capacity building.
