NNPP Rejects Kwankwaso-Led Congresses

Date:

The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the general public to ignore any congresses announced by the Kwankwasiya Movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing the move as illegal and unconstitutional.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, said all congresses mandated by the court have already been conducted and concluded by the NNPP.

This comes after the Kwankwaso-led faction wrote to INEC, notifying the commission of its intention to hold fresh congresses and a convention between November 25 and January 2026.

The NNPP insisted that the Kwankwasiya group lacks the authority to convene congresses on its behalf, stressing that the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the movement ahead of the 2023 presidential election has since expired.

The party further stated that Kwankwaso, its 2023 presidential candidate, along with some members of the Kwankwasiya Movement, remain expelled for alleged anti-party activities.

“We are still shocked that a man of Kwankwaso’s stature insists on attempting to hijack a party that provided him with a platform to contest the 2023 presidential election at no cost,” the statement read.

The NNPP called on INEC to uphold court directives and ensure that the legitimate leadership of the party is reflected on its official website.
