No breathing space for insurgents, says Magashi as he urges youths to be proactive

The Minister of defence, Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) has assured Nigerians that the Military Campaigns against insurgency, banditry and other criminal activities in parts of the country are well on course.

Maj Gen Magashi stated this when he played host to the leaderships of Arewa Youth Assembly (A.Y.A) at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Ship House Abuja.

This was contained in a statement by Mohammad Abdulkadri, the Special Assistant to Minister of Defence on Media and Publicity, as he noted that the Nigerian Military and other security agencies would not compromise in the theatre in various operations across the country, assuring that the troops would take the battle to criminal elements .

While urging the youths to shun acts capable of undermining the nation’s territorial integrity as leaders of tomorrow, he told them to be nationalistic in all their undertakings towards making the country great.

The Speaker Arewa Youth Assembly Mohammed Salihu Danlami acknowledged the sacrifices of the troops in combating criminalities and gave kudos to the defence Minister for being an epitome of humility, honesty and sincerity in service to the nation.

While giving an assurance that Arewa Youth Assembly will continue to be in the vanguard of promoting National peace, he Confered the titles of ^Sarkin Yakin Arewa” and “Icon of Nation building” on Major General Magashi in recognition of his selfless service in raising the bar of National defence for peace to reign in the country.

Meanwhile the Minister of Defence also received in audience a five – man delegation of the Jamdere Fulbe Development Association led by its National president Ahmad Muhammad Lamido.

General Magashi told them to embrace peaceful co-existence and to key into the changes in the eco- system which is impacting on the global and national environmental landscape.

He therefore urged them to adapt and adjust to the reality of the moment which is curtailing their operational latitude and attitude as itinerant Fulanis with a view to avoiding herdsman/ farmer clash.

The National president of the Association Ahmad Muhammad Lamido extoled the gallantry of the troops in denying the criminals freedom of action. He pledged that members will continue to cooperate with the security operatives to checkmate crimes. Lamido assured the Minister that members will continue to operate within the ambit of the law as law abiding citizens by making nformation available to track criminal tendencies within their domains.
