Nwabali Faces Fans’ Criticism in Uyo

Date:

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was greeted by a mix of cheers and criticism from fans upon the team’s arrival in Uyo ahead of their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic on Tuesday.

Nwabali, who has come under scrutiny for recent performances, was captured in a viral video being told to “calm down” by supporters at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.

The Chippa United shot-stopper has faced backlash following a series of errors. In last month’s qualifier against Zimbabwe, he received a yellow card and nearly got sent off for barging into an opponent.

His display against Lesotho also drew criticism after a failed attempt to claim the ball led to the Crocodiles pulling one back, with another late mistake almost costing Nigeria the win.

Despite the tension, Nwabali acknowledged the crowd with a wave before boarding the team bus as the Super Eagles prepare for their final group game.
