Residents of Onibuku, Ajayi-Egan and Mesan communities in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to the government and security agencies for urgent intervention as a three-man robbery gang continues to terrorise the area. The residents said the gang has been operating for over two months, carrying out night attacks that have left several people injured and many homes looted.
According to community members, the robbers strike at will, dispossessing victims of cash, mobile phones, motorcycles and other valuables worth millions of naira. The persistent attacks, they said, have instilled fear and disrupted daily life, forcing many residents to alter their routines and live in constant anxiety.
Victims recounted violent encounters with the gang, including physical assaults with sticks and cutlasses. A Mesan resident said he was attacked on his way home from work, while a widow in Onibuku lamented losing her savings during a robbery, leaving her fearful and unable to resume normal trading activities.
Residents also accused the Iju Police Station of inadequate response to distress calls, claiming officers often cite lack of fuel or operational vehicles and arrive long after the attackers have fled. A youth leader in Ajayi-Egan said the situation has made the community feel abandoned and vulnerable.
Beyond physical losses, residents said the insecurity has taken a psychological toll, with children traumatised by night disturbances and social activities largely suspended. They urged the Ogun State Government and security agencies to intensify patrols and restore safety to the affected communities.
