An ad-hoc staff member of the Ogun State Government was killed by soldiers while enforcing building regulations at Ganic Company in Orile-Imo, along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway. The incident occurred on Monday when the enforcement team attempted to demolish a perimeter fence that violated approved building specifications.
Oluwaseyi Adeoye, a member of the enforcement team, was shot dead as his colleagues fled in fear. The soldiers reportedly resisted the demolition, opening fire and clashing with policemen who accompanied the officials. Vehicles, including a Lexus 350 Jeep and a Toyota Corolla, were also burnt during the attack.
A town planner who spoke anonymously told Reporters that the soldiers acted without restraint and would have caused more casualties if others had not escaped. The altercation highlighted tensions between private property protection and public enforcement of building regulations.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tunji Odulami, confirmed that the military had been contacted to identify the personnel responsible. He emphasized that due process would be followed to hold those accountable for the shooting.
The Ogun State Police have opened an investigation into the incident. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the State General Hospital morgue in Ijaye, Abeokuta, while authorities continue efforts to ensure justice and prevent a recurrence of such violence during enforcement operations.
