Afrobeats star, Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has sparked conversation after describing the Nigerian music industry as “boring.”
The ‘Soso’ crooner made the remark via his Snapchat, promising to revive excitement in African music with his upcoming projects.
“Una music industry is boring AF! Spirit is coming to f**k up the continent in a bit,” Omah Lay wrote.
His statement comes shortly after fellow artist Slimcase voiced a similar sentiment, expressing concern that the Afrobeats sound is becoming monotonous.
Slimcase, known for his ‘Shaku Shaku’ dance hit, urged Afrobeats artists to slow down the frequency of their song releases to reignite anticipation and creativity in the genre.
“Too many constant releases are killing Afrobeats,” Slimcase said, calling for more strategic and exciting rollouts.
Both artists’ comments have reignited debates about the evolution and sustainability of Nigeria’s booming Afrobeats scene.
