Ondo Police Bust Human Trafficking Ring

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 10 foreign nationals allegedly involved in a human trafficking operation in Akure. The suspects, mostly from the Republic of Benin, were apprehended on July 31 following intelligence reports about suspicious activity at a residence along Oda Road.

Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal said the suspects entered Nigeria without valid documentation—some with expired passports, others with none at all. The operation also led to the rescue of a 29-year-old Congolese national, Nzaou Yelica Christ-Olse, who was reportedly lured into the country under the guise of online business training but was later abandoned.

Lawal described the case as a serious breach of Nigeria’s immigration and anti-trafficking laws. The matter has been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution.

The rescued victim is currently in safe custody and receiving care, authorities confirmed.
