Lawyer and activist Maxwell Opara, one of the organizers of the #FreeNnamdiKanu protests, has stated that neither he nor other organizers saw or received any court order banning the demonstration, contradicting claims by the police.
Speaking at Berger Axis, Abuja, Opara criticized the Federal Government for granting amnesty to terrorists and bandits while refusing to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as selective and inconsistent enforcement of court rulings.
He highlighted that several court judgments have called for Kanu’s release, including one awarding N1 billion against the Federal Government for his continued detention. Opara explained that the supposed court order cited by the police merely instructed protesters to stay away from the Presidential Villa and National Assembly.
Opara confirmed that some protest leaders were arrested by police, but insisted that the action would not deter them from continuing the protests until Kanu is freed.
He criticized the government for negotiating with non-state actors responsible for violence in the country while ignoring judicial directives regarding Kanu’s detention.
