The Federal Government has nominated Wale Edun Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, with President Bola Tinubu formally transmitting his name to the Senate for confirmation. The nomination was disclosed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Prior to the nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led initiatives aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax system and improving revenue generation. If confirmed, he is expected to strengthen ongoing fiscal reforms and support efforts to stabilise the economy.
Oyedele previously spent 22 years at PwC, rising to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader after joining the firm in 2001. He is also an economist and public policy expert with extensive experience in financial and tax administration.
Academically, he holds an HND in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive programmes at institutions including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Currently a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School, Oyedele brings decades of professional and academic experience to the role as he awaits Senate confirmation.
