A petrol tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) crashed and caught fire on Monday along the Iseyin/Oyo Road near NICO Farm in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to eyewitness reports and investigations the tanker, with registration number *Lagos LM62XP*, lost control while in motion, somersaulted into a ditch, and ignited.
Oyo State Fire Service Chairman, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital.
He said the fire was reported to the agency at exactly 10:46 a.m., prompting a swift emergency response.
“Upon receiving the alert, firemen led by PFS1 Azeez were deployed to the scene,” Akinwande said. “They met a fully loaded petrol tanker that had somersaulted and caught fire.”
The fire service used chemical foam compounds to contain and extinguish the flames, successfully preventing an explosion and further damage.
Akinwande added that no nearby buildings or vehicles were affected due to the timely intervention.
He confirmed that the fire was fully extinguished and normal vehicular movement was restored along the road.
No casualties were reported at the time of this publication. Authorities have not released additional information about the cause of the crash.
