The Plateau State Police Command has arrested several armed robbery suspects, including individuals accused of serving as informants to terrorists, and recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles during intelligence-led operations in Plateau State.
Parading the suspects before journalists in Jos on Saturday, Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah said the arrests followed credible information from members of the public and underscored the command’s commitment to protecting residents.
Ewah said the police also recovered two locally made revolvers, other pistols and rubber guns used in criminal activities. He noted that the breakthrough was achieved through collaboration between divisional officers and the Armed Robbery Section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), particularly after a victim reported an incident in Langtang South.
“We are open to criticism because it is only when you are criticised that you know where you are not doing well,” the commissioner said, while appreciating residents for supporting police operations with actionable intelligence.
He disclosed that some of the suspects were linked to kidnapping and terrorism through information sharing and would be charged to court for prosecution.
The commissioner also commended the partnership between the police and the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, especially the Attorney General’s office, for supporting diligent prosecution of criminal cases. He further urged continued cooperation from the media and the public to enhance security across the state.
