The Plateau State Police Command has launched intensive 24-hour patrol and surveillance operations across all 17 local government areas to ensure a secure observance of the Christian Lenten season and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, and communicated through the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo.
The operations aim to boost visible policing, deter criminal activity during the festive periods, and maintain law and order across communities. CP Ewah ordered the deployment of officers and equipment to key flashpoints, vulnerable areas, and strategic locations throughout the state.
The State Intelligence Department has been tasked with enhancing intelligence gathering, ensuring rapid response readiness, and monitoring movements of people and vehicles entering and leaving the state. Special deployments were also made at major exit points and border communities to prevent criminal infiltration.
CP Ewah emphasized the importance of sustained and proactive patrols to prevent opportunistic crimes that typically spike during religious celebrations. Officers were instructed to maintain professionalism, discipline, and respect for citizens’ rights while on duty.
The command called on residents, community leaders, religious organizations, and transport operators to remain vigilant and provide timely information on any suspicious activities. CP Ewah also reiterated that officers are prohibited from searching citizens’ mobile phones on the road without a court order, urging complaints to be reported through official channels.
