The Niger State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old man, Victor Ugwu, of Easy Life Street, Kaduna Road, for allegedly operating a dating scam while posing as a woman on social media.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect, who works with a company in Kaduna, was apprehended on October 16, 2025, around 6:00 p.m., by a patrol team from the Maje Division in Suleja Local Government Area.
Abiodun said the patrol team intercepted Ugwu during a public altercation with one Peter, a resident of the same area, who accused him of deception.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Peter had contacted Ugwu to introduce him to a female colleague. However, instead of connecting him to the woman, Ugwu allegedly dressed as a female, took selfies, and sent them to Peter through social media, demanding money under the guise of being the woman.
“During questioning, Peter explained that Victor dressed like a lady, took selfie pictures, and forwarded them to him via social media, requesting money. A search conducted at Victor’s residence led to the recovery of a wig and female clothing,” Abiodun said.
He added that Ugwu confessed to sharing the photos on Facebook and TikTok as part of a dating scam and to gain followers for potential account monetization. The case, he said, is still under investigation.
In a separate operation, the Maje Division Patrol team recovered a stolen white Volkswagen Golf vehicle with registration number RSH 442 FD.
Abiodun disclosed that the car had been reported stolen from Hayin-Kaduna and was found abandoned along the Maje–Dikko Junction–Kaduna Road. The complainant later identified it as the missing vehicle.
Police said investigations are ongoing to trace and apprehend the culprits responsible for the theft.
