Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have foiled an attempted robbery near an MRS Filling Station in the Kado area of Abuja, following a gun duel with suspected armed robbers that left one suspect hospitalised.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Monday that the operation was triggered by a distress call received at the Mabushi Divisional Headquarters on Friday, reporting an ongoing attack by three suspected armed robbers.
She explained that a police response team from Mabushi Division immediately mobilised to the scene, where the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the officers, leading to a hot pursuit and exchange of gunfire.
During the confrontation, one of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the remaining suspects escaped into surrounding bushes. Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Adeh added that several exhibits were recovered at the scene, including the suspects’ operational vehicle, firearms, mobile phones, a generator and other items, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the FCT.
