Manchester United’s hopes of landing Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa ended on deadline day after Jason Sancho refused to join Villa on a permanent deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the clubs had agreed a potential swap worth around £25 million each, with Sancho moving to Villa in exchange for Martinez.
Sancho, however, preferred a loan move and held out for interest from Chelsea and Serie A clubs. His position forced both clubs to abandon the deal.
The 25-year-old winger, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea, remains out of United boss Ruben Amorim’s plans. Chelsea had considered a permanent transfer but pulled out after failing to agree terms.
Villa’s loan offer for Sancho was also rejected, leaving him back at Old Trafford as United instead secured the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
