Sanwo-Olu Celebrates 15-Year-Old Autistic Artist’s Guinness World Record

Date:

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated 15-year-old Nigerian artist, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, after his Guinness World Record-breaking canvas Impossibility is a Myth was unveiled at Marina, Eko Atlantic City.

Kanyeyachukwu, who is non-verbal and on the autism spectrum, created the world’s largest painting by an individual, spanning 12,303.87 square metres. The achievement earned him a place in the Guinness Book of Records and widespread recognition across Nigeria.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, the governor described the teenager’s feat as a landmark achievement that highlights the potential of Nigerian youth and the importance of inclusion.

“At just 15, Kanyeyachukwu has accomplished what many would deem impossible. His record-breaking canvas, now recognised globally as the largest in the world created by an individual, is not only a personal triumph but also a powerful reminder that impossibility is truly a myth,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He noted that the infinity symbol at the centre of the artwork carries a message of hope and acceptance for people living with autism, urging society to create more opportunities for young people regardless of their circumstances.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in platforms that nurture creativity, youth talent, and global competitiveness. He described young people as “the heartbeat of innovation and the stewards of our future.”

“On behalf of the government and people of Lagos State, I congratulate Kanyeyachukwu for showcasing the Nigerian spirit of resilience and excellence on a global stage. You have inspired your peers and reminded us all that impossibility is indeed just a myth,” he added.
