Sawmiller Remanded For Assaulting Wife In Ogun State

Date:

A 57-year-old sawmiller, Fatai Quadri, has been remanded at the Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre until October 17, following allegations of assaulting his 50-year-old wife, Rukayat Quadri, in their Illese-Ijebu home.

Quadri appeared before the Ijebu Ode Magistrate Court on Monday, facing charges of assault, domestic violence, and breach of peace, among others, according to court documents.

The charge sheet states that on September 15, 2025, at around 6 a.m., Quadri allegedly assaulted his wife with a stick and his fists, causing bodily injuries, in violation of Sections 355, 86, and 249(1)(d) of the Ogun State Criminal Code, as well as provisions under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law.

Magistrate P.O. Odunsi adjourned the case to October 17 for further hearing, including consideration of the suspect’s bail application.

The Ogun State Police confirmed the arrest on Saturday, following the circulation of a viral video showing Quadri violently attacking his wife. He was apprehended by officers from Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu Ode.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said preliminary investigations suggest the assault arose from a marital dispute linked to allegations of infidelity. Quadri allegedly transferred ownership of a jointly built 10-room apartment to another woman, which triggered the attack.

The victim is currently receiving medical treatment. The state police command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on domestic violence, warning that offenders would face the full force of the law.

Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, Attorney General of Ogun State, described the incident as “reprehensible” and confirmed that the case had been transferred to the Gender Unit for further action.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, assured the public that the government would monitor the case closely to ensure justice is served and reaffirmed its stance against gender-based violence.
