Seven Killed, Three Injured in Attack on Plateau Community

Date:

At least seven people have been confirmed dead and three others critically injured following an attack on Ratatis community in Dorowa Babuje district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday night.

A resident, Albert Dung, told DAILY POST that the attackers, suspected to be Fulani militias, stormed the community around 7:30 p.m., shooting sporadically for hours and setting houses and farmlands ablaze.

“The attackers invaded the Ratatis community at about 7:30 p.m. and shot sporadically, killing seven people instantly, while three others were critically injured and later rushed to hospital,” Dung said.

He alleged that prior to the assault, residents had received security alerts about a possible invasion and contacted the Barkin Ladi Sector Command of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), but their distress calls were not answered.

“As a result, the bandits operated for several hours unchecked,” he added.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, also confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard rural communities.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the entire Berom community during this dark time,” Tengwong said.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
