Veteran Nigerian musician Seyi Sodimu has shared his views on the differing influences of Afrobeats stars Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy, arguing that their impact extends beyond music in distinct ways. He said Davido’s influence, in particular, could translate into political success if he chose to run for public office.
Speaking on a recent episode of the What I Know podcast hosted by Korty EO alongside Shaffy Bello, the Love Me Jeje crooner explained that Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido each command unique forms of influence. According to him, Wizkid possesses a special appeal, Burna Boy’s influence is rooted mainly in his musical achievements, while Davido’s reach cuts across broader segments of society.
Sodimu claimed that Davido’s popularity and connections could enable him to win a governorship election, unlike Burna Boy, whose influence he described as largely confined to the music space. “If Davido ran for governor today, he would win. But I don’t think Burna Boy could win as a governor,” he said.
The comments are not the first to link Davido with potential political aspirations. In 2025, former lawmaker Senator Ben Murray-Bruce suggested that the singer could one day become the governor of Osun State.
Davido hails from a prominent political family in Osun, where his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, currently serves as governor, further fuelling speculation about the singer’s possible future in politics.
