Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yomi Fabiyi has clarified that his open support for Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner, Imisi, was born out of genuine loyalty and mentorship rather than personal or financial interest.
Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Fabiyi explained that his relationship with Imisi began long before her rise to fame on the reality show, describing himself as a “father figure” to her within the Nigerian movie industry.
“I am an adult and like a father to her in the film industry. She was the only housemate I knew personally. Everything I do, she supports,” he said.
“For instance, when I had my housewarming, she stayed throughout and made sure the event went well. Supporting her during the show was simply the right thing to do.”
Fabiyi further revealed that Imisi’s entertainment career began under his mentorship at his film academy, where she trained as an aspiring actress.
“Imisi was one of my students at my film academy, and beyond that, she has always been supportive of me and my son. We used to live in the same area in Ikorodu, and she’s been helpful long before the fame,” he added.
When asked if he feared being disappointed, given his past experiences with people who distanced themselves after gaining fame, the actor said he chooses not to dwell on such matters.
“I don’t think about things like that. Of course, in today’s social media world, some people distance themselves from those who helped them just to appear self-made. They don’t want anyone to have bragging rights over their success,” he explained.
Despite this, Fabiyi maintained that he remains unbothered by acts of ingratitude and will continue to do what he believes is right.“No matter the level of ingratitude, I don’t let it get to me. I’ll keep doing what’s right,” he affirmed.
The actor’s remarks have drawn praise from fans and industry colleagues, who commended him for upholding mentorship values and emotional maturity in an era often defined by fleeting loyalty.
