Liverpool manager Arne Slot has acknowledged that while his side are showing more attacking threat than last season, defensive frailties remain a concern.
Speaking after the Reds’ 2-2 draw and subsequent defeat to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on Sunday, Slot noted that his team’s offensive improvements have come at the cost of conceding more goals.
Liverpool opened the scoring through debutant Hugo Ekitike, but Jean-Philippe Mateta’s penalty brought Palace level. Jeremie Frimpong then marked his competitive debut with a goal, before Ismaila Sarr equalised late in the second half.
“We created more chances against a compact side, but conceded two goals — the same problem we had against Athletic Club, and a couple more versus Milan. This is an area we must improve,” Slot told reporters.
