Soldiers Rescue Kidnapped Victims In Kwara Operation

Date:

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMA, Maj. Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife, has led troops in a successful rescue operation in Kwara State.

This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Lt. Col. Polycarp Okoye.

According to the statement, the GOC, during an operational visit to Patrol Base Babanla on Thursday, led troops into Babasango Forest, where they successfully rescued two kidnapped victims.

The rescued victims were later handed over to the traditional ruler of Ayekale, Oba Pius Oluwole Onidofin of Idofin Odoeshe Ayekale.

Okoye said the operation followed a recent bandits’ attack near Idofin in Omu-Aran Local Government Area, where three traders were killed at Olegbede village.

“Oba Oluwole attributed the attacks to the community’s proximity to Babasango Forest and appealed for sustained military presence,” the statement read.

Maj. Gen. Nnebeife commiserated with the royal father and assured that the Nigerian Army would sustain ongoing clearance operations aimed at flushing out bandits and criminal elements from the forest.

In late September, Punch reported that armed bandits had invaded Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, killing at least 15 vigilantes and hunters, forcing many residents to flee the town.
