Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to drop any ambition of contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Sani argued that Jonathan would be making a costly mistake, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — the platform that brought him to power in 2011 — is no longer united.
He noted that while Jonathan’s name surfaces every election season, this time would be different.
“I advise him not to run. The PDP he once knew is no longer the same. In the South-West, the party is endorsing the current president, while other members have joined coalitions. He shouldn’t waste his time,” Sani said.
Jonathan, who served as Vice President under the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua before assuming the presidency in 2010, ruled until 2015. He later sought re-election but lost to Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sani’s warning comes amid renewed speculation that the former president may be eyeing a return to Aso Rock in 2027.
