    Kwara Pilgrims Board to refund hajj fares to intending pilgrims

    Kwara Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board says it has perfected arrangement to commence the refund of hajj fares to all the 1,700 intending pilgrims of the aborted 2020 and 2021 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

    The Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Ahmed, disclosed this during an interview with ROYAL NEWS in Ilorin on Wednesday.

    ROYAL NEWS recalls that Saudi Arabian authorities had, in June, announced the restriction of the annual pilgrimage to citizens and residents, and set a maximum of 60,000 pilgrims in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The executive secretary, who described the development as unfortunate, said that the board was ready to fully refund the hajj fare to any interested intending pilgrim.

    He said that interested pilgrims in all the 16 local government areas of the state and beyond could apply to the board for the refund of the fare.

    He, however, said that interested pilgrims could roll over their fares for future pilgrimage.

    “Any interested intending pilgrims, who desire a refund, should apply to the board with necessary documents. The board is ready to refund them,” he said.

    ROYAL NEWS reports that all the intending pilgrims had been vaccinated twice against COVlD-19, as part of preparations for the aborted holy pilgrimage.

    The FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board says it will begin administration of the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination to its intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for 2021 on May 31.

    Its Board Director, Malam Nasiru DanMallam, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

    DanMallam gave assurance of the FCT Administration’s arrangements to ensure that intending pilgrims fulfill all requirements for the 2021 Hajj.

    He disclosed that the Health and Human Services Secretariat of the FCT had provided enough vaccines that would be administered to the intending pilgrims in line with the requirements for the 2021 Hajj by Saudi Arabian authority.

    The director said that the vaccination would be administered at the headquarters of the board for the intending pilgrims, who registered at the office on May 31 and June 1, by 9 a.m.

    He urged the intending pilgrims to note that the inoculation exercise was an obligation that needed to be fulfilled to meet up with traveling requirements to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    He gave assurance that the board was working hard to make all necessary arrangements for the religious exercise while waiting for further directives on the 2021 Hajj from relevant authorities.

    No fewer than 60,000 pilgrims will participate in the 2021 hajj activities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, ROYAL NEWS reports.

    Saudi Arabia’s Ministry Of Health stated this in a broadcast on Sunday stressing that the figure would include local and foreign pilgrims.

    Although, the 2020 hajj was suspended following the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak but it not yet certain if the 2021 hajj activities would take place.

    The number of pilgrims was reduced in accordance with the COVID-19 protocols as the country usually hosts over two million Muslim faithful to the holy city of Mecca to perform the rites.

    According to the statement, “Only 60,000 Hujjaj will be scheduled to perform Hajj this year which includes local and foreign pilgrims.

    “Those performing Hajj MUST be between the age of 18-60 years of Age. Those performing Hajj MUST be in a good state of health.

    “Those performing Hajj MUST not have been in hospital for any illness within the past 6 months prior to travelling for Hajj. (Proof Is Required).

    “The pilgrims MUST have had both doses of the vaccine with a Vaccination card provided by the individual countries Health Organisation/Hospital/Ministry.
