    Ekiti ADC Aspirant defiant after attack on party Secretariat

    African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Apostle Ayodele David-Adesua, has vowed that no act of violence or intimidation will deter the party from its mission to wrest power and restore good governance in the state.

    David-Adesua made the declaration in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, following the attack on the party’s state secretariat and members by suspected political thugs on Tuesday.

    The attackers reportedly set ablaze the newly inaugurated ADC secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, vandalised property, and injured party members during the inauguration of executive committees across the state.

    Condemning the incident, David-Adesua described it as a “barbaric and cowardly act” and “an assault on the democratic will of the Ekiti people who yearn for freedom from misrule and tyranny.”

    He maintained that the ADC would not be cowed by political violence or intimidation, insisting that the party would emerge stronger from the setback.

    “Let it be clear that no amount of destruction or deceit will weaken our resolve. From these ashes, we shall rescue, rebuild, and rise stronger, bolder, and more united,” he said. “This cowardly act will only strengthen our determination to defend truth, uphold justice, and restore the dignity of our people.”

    The aspirant added that the ADC’s mission to bring transformation and hope to Ekiti was divinely ordained and driven by the will of the people.

    “We will not bow to agents of oppression or internal saboteurs who thrive on chaos. Our movement is people-driven, unstoppable, and anchored in divine purpose,” he stated.

    Also reacting, former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the ADC, Rauf Aregbesola, who was in Ekiti for the inauguration, condemned the attack, describing it as “a shameful display of intolerance and a dangerous threat to democracy.”

    He said, “It is unfortunate that individuals who came to power through a democratic process could resort to violence and intimidation to silence opposition voices. The attack on ADC members in Ekiti represents a descent into fascism.”

    The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed that an investigation has begun to identify and prosecute those behind the incident.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Ekiti State governorship election for June 20, 2026.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of sunshine, clouds, and scattered thunderstorms across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

    NiMet’s outlook, released in Abuja, forecast sunny skies with occasional clouds over northern states on Monday morning. Isolated thunderstorms with light rain were expected in parts of Taraba and southern Kebbi, with moderate rainfall later over Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Kebbi, and southern Sokoto.

    In the central region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine were anticipated, along with morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over Niger, Benue, Plateau, and Kogi states. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms were expected over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa states.

    For the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere with morning light rain was forecast for Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Imo, Ebonyi, and Abia states. Moderate rainfall and isolated thunderstorms were expected across most southern states later in the day.

    On Tuesday, NiMet predicted similar patterns: sunny skies with clouds in the north, morning thunderstorms in Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, southern Kano, southern Jigawa, and Adamawa, and moderate rainfall later in the day. Central states were expected to have morning light rain in Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Benue, and the FCT, followed by afternoon isolated thunderstorms.

    The southern region was expected to experience morning rainfall over Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with afternoon thunderstorms and moderate rain across Imo, Ebonyi, Abia, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.

    On Wednesday, NiMet forecast sunny skies and cloud patches in the north, with light morning rain in Taraba and afternoon isolated thunderstorms over Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba. The central region was expected to have intermittent sunshine, morning thunderstorms, and light rain in Niger, Kwara, and Benue, followed by isolated moderate rainfall over Kogi, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa, and the FCT.

    In the south, morning thunderstorms and light rain were predicted for Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa, with moderate rainfall expected across most southern states later in the day.

    NiMet advised motorists to drive cautiously during rains, secure loose objects, and disconnect electrical appliances. The public was urged to avoid tall trees to prevent injury from falling branches, while farmers were advised to delay fertilizer and pesticide application before rainfall.

    The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports to ensure safe flight operations.

    A female governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Atinuke Omolayo, has declared that she would only step down from the 2026 race if Governor Biodun Oyebanji is chosen as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

    Omolayo, who appeared before the APC Governorship Screening Committee in Abuja on Tuesday, said she was confident of securing the party’s ticket and making history as Ekiti’s first female governor.

    “I have a chance, I have 100 percent. Since the creation of Ekiti State, there has never been a female governor. I want to be the first, and by the grace of God, it will happen,” she told reporters.

    While commending Oyebanji’s performance in office, she argued that a woman could achieve even more. She urged women across the country to participate actively in politics, adding: “In elections, it’s we women who come out and vote.”

    Omolayo said she would accept any form of primary—direct, indirect, or consensus—but stressed that her only condition for stepping aside would be if the party endorsed Oyebanji. “Any other person, no way,” she said.

    Governor Oyebanji also faced the screening panel earlier on Tuesday. Speaking afterward, he expressed satisfaction with the process, describing it as thorough and necessary to strengthen the party.

    He pledged loyalty to the APC and assured that he would abide by the outcome of the October 27 primaries. “Democracy thrives on participation. Whoever emerges must be supported, because it is about serving the people,” Oyebanji said.

    Ekiti United Football Club have officially confirmed their return to the Nigeria National League (NNL) for the upcoming 2025–26 season.

    The club’s media officer, Blessing Akinyemi, announced the development in a statement on Monday, revealing that the team had secured a promotion slot to participate in the second-tier league, despite not qualifying through the Nationwide League One (NLO) playoffs.

    “We are delighted to share with our fans, stakeholders, and the entire Ekiti community that Ekiti United Football Club has successfully secured a slot in the NNL for the 2025/2026 season,” the statement read.

    DAILY POST recalls that Ekiti United were relegated from the NNL at the end of the 2023–24 season, dropping to the NLO.

    Their return marks a significant comeback for the club, which is now preparing to compete once again at a higher level of Nigerian football.

    Medical doctors in Ekiti and Ondo states have strongly rejected a new directive from the Federal Government on the review of health workers’ allowances, describing it as “obnoxious” and a breach of established agreements. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) chapters in both states have warned that failure to withdraw the circular within the 21-day deadline set by the national body could lead to a nationwide strike.

    The contentious circular, issued by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission on June 27, 2025 (Ref: SWC/S/04/S.218/11/646), outlines revised allowance structures for health workers. NMA officials argue the directive undermines long-standing salary relativity agreements between medical doctors and other healthcare professionals and comes at a time when the health sector is grappling with mass emigration of doctors and deteriorating work conditions.

    Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, NMA State Chairman Dr. Ifedayo Oreyemi criticized the circular as a violation of previous collective bargaining agreements from 2001, 2009, and 2014. He called on the Federal Government to reverse the decision and urged senior doctors nationwide to join the protest. In a similar stance, the Ondo State NMA, through a communique signed by Dr. Alonge Olumuyiwa and Dr. Olaopa Gideon, demanded a 300% pay increase for doctors and described the circular as ill-conceived and damaging to an already fragile healthcare system.

    Both states emphasized that the circular’s timing is particularly harmful given the ongoing shortage of medical personnel due to the “Japa” trend. They highlighted poor remuneration, backlog of arrears, and worsening conditions of service as critical issues demanding urgent attention, warning that continued inaction could result in a national healthcare crisis.

    Ekiti Chief Judge escapes death as court wall collapsed

    Ekiti State Chief Judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, escaped death on Wednesday, when a section of the state high court complex collapsed on him while in the office.

    Justice Adeyeye is said to be currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in the state.

    Daily Trust reported that the incident happened around close of work on Wednesday. The judge was still in his chamber at the time of the collapse.

    The incident may not be unconnected with structural deficit worsened by the torrential rainfall.

    No life was lost during the collapse but the Chief Judge reportedly sustained serious injury as a section of the office collapsed on him.

    It took serious efforts from workers before the judge was rescued from the rubble.

    A visit to the Registrar office to get further details did not yield result as the registrar through a staff member asked journalists to return later.

    An Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, May 15, sentenced three persons to death by hanging for conspiracy and armed robbery.

    The defendants: Omotayo Deji, 23, Chidiebere Ifeanyi, 25, and Bolaji Usman, 28, were arraigned before Justice Bamidele Omotoso on January 21, 2020, on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.

    The charge reads that the defendants on “May 6, 2019, at Aba Erinfun, Federal Polytechnic Road, Ado Ekiti in Ado Ekiti Judicial Division did conspire to commit a felony, to wit; armed robbery and robbed Ademiloye Stephen, Olokuntoye Temitope and Ajayi Kolade of their belongings, such as phones, laptop computer, sandals, phone chargers and power banks valued at N186,000, as at the time of the robbery. They were armed with cutlass and wooden plank,”

    According to the charges, the alleged offences contradicted Sections 6 (b), 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. RII, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

    One of the victims in his statement to the police, said: “We were sleeping in our room at about 2:30 a.m., suddenly, I heard a loud sound on the door, immediately, we woke up, I saw the defendants armed with cutlass and wooden plank, immediately, they broke the electric bulb with the plank in their hand. They commanded us to lay face down and bring out all our money. We told them that we are students and we don’t have money, but they started beating us on our backs with sticks and cutlasses.

    “Thereafter, they started collecting our phones, laptops, chargers, sandals, power banks and others I could not remember and ran away. We were later shouting for help but nobody came out.”

    To prove his case, the police prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, called one witness and tendered statements of the victims and defendants, as well as phones among others as exhibits.

    The defendants testified through their counsels, without calling witnesses.

    In his judgement, Justice Bamidele Omotoso said, “I am of the strong opinion that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt the offence of armed robbery against the defendants.

    “They are hereby found guilty as charged and convicted for the offence of armed robbery.

    “The sentence of the court upon you, Omotayo Deji, Chidiebere Ifeanyi, and Bolaji Usman is that you be hanged by the neck until you are dead, and may the Lord have mercy on your souls.”

    Herbalist slumps, dies while having sex with pastor’s wife in Ekiti


    The lady whom the man was having sex with was said to be married to a pastor in one of the churches in the community.

    A herbalist, whose identity was yet-to-be disclosed, has slumped and died, while having sex with a woman at a hotel in Ikere Ekiti, headquarters of the Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

    The incident happened on Monday, January 2, 2023, when the herbalist went into a hotel room to meet the lady.

    According to an eyewitness, who expressed surprise at the incident, the lady was married to a cleric in one of the churches in the area where the incident happened.

    “The man died in the hotel room while having sex with the woman. The woman raised the alarm after realising that the man collapsed.

    “The manager of the hotel and some residents rushed to the scene and immediately took the man to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead. I want to believe the woman was spiritually laced with native thunderbolt,” the source stated.

    Confirming the demise of the man in the hotel, Oyo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sunday Abutu said the law enforcement agency had begun investigation on the circumstances leading to the man’s death.

    “We can confirm the death of the man in one of the hotels at Ikere Ekiti on Monday. His corpse has been retrieved and deposited in a morgue. We are interrogating the woman in question as we embark on investigations to unravel the cause of the man’s death,” he added.

    The police spokesperson vowed that Justice would prevail should the lady be involved in the man’s death.

    Tribunal upholds Abiodun Oyebanji as Ekiti Governor


    The Ekiti State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti has upheld the victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Oyebanji, in the June governorship election in the state.

    Oyebanji had polled a total of 187,057 votes to defeat his two closest challengers – Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Bisi Kolawole of the People’s Democratic Party.

    The SDP emerged in second place with total votes of 82,211 while the PDP was third with 67,457 votes.

    Unsatisfied with the outcome of the election, SDP’s Oni had on July 7 filed a petition at the tribunal challenging the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the election.

    He hinged his case on alleged election rigging by voter inducement and bypass of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at some polling stations; the authenticity of the WAEC certificate presented by the Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Monisade Afuye among other grounds.

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in Ekiti on Tuesday, with a call for massive votes for the party’s candidates all over the country in the 2023 general elections.

    Inaugurating the council in Ado-Ekiti, Mr Eddy Olafeso, the Former Zonal chairman, South West PDP, urged PDP members in the state to close ranks and work for the victory of the party in the coming election.

    Olafeso said Nigerians had witnessed the worst Christmas ever in Nigeria’s history and charged the electorates to use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to vote for Atiku and Okowa, the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates of the party, in order to effect the desired change.

    Olafeso, who equally inaugurated the state Campaign Manager Committee, condemned the leadership style of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that Nigeria had been plunged into numerous problems without solutions.

    In his address, the Acting Chairman, Ekiti PDP PCC, Chief Ogundipe Makanjuola, said what is required is the unalloyed commitment of party members towards the winning the Presidential election in the next two months so that the PDP can revamp the battered economy of Nigeria.

    Makanjuola called on PDP supporters to go out to mobilise support for the party and all its candidates in the election.

    “We have been handed a very strategic task, a very challenging assignment, but by the special grace of God, it is not insurmountable, we shall succeed,” he said.

    Others members inaugurated included Mr Tunji Odeyemi, Secretary of the PCC, former governors and deputy governors, serving and former lawmakers, chairmen, secretaries, BoT members, former lawmakers and serving, state youth leader, all local government party chairmen, including Chief Sanya Atofarati, the PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, as members, among others.

    Members of the Ekiti PDP Management Committee inaugurated included, Sen. Duro Faseyi, North, Mr. Diplo Anisulowo, Central, and Prof. Olusola Eleka, South, while Mrs. Yemisi Afolabi, is the Secretary.

    The gathering was attended by many loyalists of the party across the 16 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state.
