    DNA Tests Ordered for Late Singer Mohbad’s Son

    A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, has ordered DNA tests to be conducted on Liam Aloba, the two-year-old son of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

    The ruling was delivered on Tuesday by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga in response to an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba. The artiste’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was named as the respondent.

    During the hearing, Joseph Aloba’s counsel, Augustine Adegbemi, moved the application, while Omowunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, raised no objection. The court directed that two DNA tests be carried out—one in Nigeria and another abroad—in accredited hospitals, with representatives from both sides present during sample collection.

    The case was adjourned to November 11 for further proceedings.

    Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has clarified her involvement in the controversial group chat currently making waves on social media.

    In a post shared on her Instagram account, the actress explained that she was briefly added to the chat by someone she knows but exited promptly after realizing the conversation was not aligned with her values or interests.

    Okorie stressed that she avoids unnecessary drama and prefers to focus on her personal and professional commitments.

    “Everybody knows I love and respect Aunty Iyabo. Anything she does and invites me to, I always go. Everybody knows I like Naira Marley; even during the whole saga with Mohbad, people were dragging me,” she said.

    She further explained that she left the group almost immediately after realizing its purpose.

    “The moment I saw that it was not about me, I vacated the building. The aunty that added me called and was apologizing for over an hour,” she added.

    Angela also appealed for peace and urged for justice in the case of the late singer Mohbad.

    “You guys should stop this hatred. Whatever is going on, I believe we are definitely going to resolve it. Anybody that is human will definitely want justice for him.”

    Nigerian music producer Samuel Oguachuba, popularly known as Samklef, has broken his silence on the controversy involving activist Verydarkman and the late singer Mohbad.

    In a recent video, Samklef refuted claims that Verydarkman paid ₦20 million to obtain information about a leaked group chat involving several celebrities allegedly linked to Mohbad’s death.

    “Verydarkman didn’t pay anyone ₦20 million. The person who leaked the chat was part of the group,” Samklef stated.

    He also voiced frustration about the lack of appreciation from Mohbad’s family and the music industry, despite his public support for justice.

    “If Mohbad’s father is silent, why should I be the one fighting? I don’t have any personal stake in this case. Why should I cry more than the bereaved?” he asked.

    Samklef expressed concern over the backlash he has received online, stating that the entertainment industry has “ganged up” against him.

    “People insulted me for standing up for justice. Even when the court released Naira Marley and Sam Larry, I didn’t go online ranting. The family didn’t appreciate our efforts,” he lamented.

    The producer urged everyone involved in the feud to step back and allow peace to reign, warning that revenge won’t bring peace to Mohbad’s soul.

    “Mohbad hasn’t been buried. Revenge will only prolong the pain. Let’s all cease fire and stop fighting,” he appealed.

    Nollywood actress and activist Iyabo Ojo has broken her silence following a series of viral videos in which a group of men publicly wished her death and accused her of obstructing justice in the ongoing investigation into the death of late singer Mohbad.

    In the videos, widely shared on social media, the men were seen marching through the streets of Lagos, carrying placards featuring images of Ojo and Mohbad. One man, who appeared to lead the group, alleged that the fire incident at Ojo’s Lagos office was a form of divine retribution and warned of more suffering for her and her family.

    Taking to Instagram, Ojo issued a detailed and emotional statement addressing the threats. She clarified her role in the #JusticeForMohbad campaign, stating unequivocally that she never accused anyone of being responsible for the singer’s death. Rather, she said her advocacy was rooted in the demand for transparency and urged certain individuals to cooperate with police investigations to clear their names.

    Ojo also disclosed that she was recently invited by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja, following petitions alleging cyberbullying and the spread of false information in connection to Mohbad’s controversial death.

    The actress, who has been a vocal figure in seeking justice for the late singer, described the ordeal as emotionally draining. She recounted being subjected to smear campaigns, online harassment, and personal threats, including a chilling anonymous letter received just days before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania. The letter warned she would “go through hell in the next three months.”

    Despite the threats, Ojo reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for justice and urged the public to remain focused on uncovering the truth behind Mohbad’s death.

    Mr. Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has filed an appeal against a Lagos High Court ruling that upheld the legal advice clearing music executive Azeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley) and show promoter Balogun Eletu (aka Sam Larry) of any involvement in his son’s death.

    The notice of appeal, filed at the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal, seeks to overturn the July 2, 2025, judgment delivered by Justice D.T. Olatokun. Aloba, through his legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Wahab Shittu and Don Akaegbu, is challenging the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) legal advice that exonerated the two men.

    In the appeal, Aloba contended that the trial court erred by ruling that the Attorney-General’s prosecutorial discretion under Section 211(1) of the 1999 Constitution is absolute and beyond judicial scrutiny. He argued that such powers must be exercised in the interest of justice and not used to protect individuals from prosecution.

    Citing Elias v. Arkas (2018) 10 NWLR (Pt 1626) Pg 37, he asserted that prosecutorial powers can be reviewed by courts when exercised in ways that undermine public interest or due process.

    Aloba urged the appellate court to set aside the lower court’s ruling and issue an order of certiorari to nullify the DPP’s legal advice referenced as LJP/HOM/2023/170, which he believes obstructed justice in the ongoing investigation of Mohbad’s controversial death.

    The Attorney-General of Lagos State, Lawal Pedro (SAN), and the Director of Public Prosecutions are named as respondents in the suit.

    Aloba further alleged in earlier court filings that the DPP acted prematurely by issuing its legal advice before the coroner’s inquest—initiated on September 29, 2023—had concluded. He said individuals summoned by the coroner were released before clarifying their roles, and that the DPP and police failed to consult the inquest before taking actions that potentially undermined its findings.

    The management of the late Nigerian musician, Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba well known as Mohbad, has slammed his father, Mr Joseph Aloba, with a N200 million defamation suit.

    Recall that Mohbad’s father had revealed in a recent interview that his 26-year-old son left behind a thumbprint-only will that was not signed.

    But Mohbad’s management rebuffed the allegation in a statement, describing the alleged will as unprecedented and unreal.

    The matter has escalated as Mohbad’s father faces legal action from the management team.

    In the letter, the management demanded that Mohbad’s father retract what they called “slanderous” remarks and provide a public apology.

    Furthermore, the management is requesting N200 million in damages.

    “You are to publish same unqualified apology…within 14 days of this letter with payment of N200,000,000 (Two hundred Million Naira) through this honourable chambers (Bankole Falade & Co) within the set period,” the notice read in part.

    The management of the late Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has debunked claims that the singer left behind a will.

    The management noted that the artist died without writing a will on how his assets should be distributed.

    Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, in a recent interview with TVC, claimed that he discovered his son had a will.

    In the interview Joseph Aloba said, “I was so shocked when I heard that the 26 years had a will. As a father, I do not have something like that. I’ve never thought of writing my will.

    “26-year-old boy was writing a will. Which is capital no! So they had to collaborate with the lawyer to put his hands into many things that are not right.”

    Aloba also claimed that the will had a thumbprint and not a signature, alleging that the thumbprints were done after the singer’s death.

    He said, “Mohbad is the kind of person that will never think of using his hand to thumbprint. Instead of that, he will sign. Because he was dead, they had to call a lawyer to do their own mathematics inside.

    “I did not believe that. He cannot thumbprint, he is supposed to sign. I as his father cannot even say I want to thumbprint. I have my signature, he has his signature too. Simply because they cannot trace him, they had to use his hand to thumbprint many things there.”

    However, reacting in a statement shared via the late singer’s Instagram page on Monday, his management debunked the claim describing it as “false and misleading”.

    The statement partly read, “We would like to use this opportunity to share a few updates and highlight certain truths so that misconceptions and miscommunication do not persist.

    “1. The Police Authorities have conducted an investigation and have communicated that the autopsy results from samples sent abroad will take a couple of months before they are shared.

    “2. No member of Mohbad’s management or his lawyer has communicated the existence of a will or any such thumb-printed document (as has recently been FALSELY reported) to any member of the family or the public.

    “We would like to state with certainty that if any such document did exist, it would have been duly registered with the Probate Registry. We, therefore, plead with everyone to refrain from sharing false and misleading statements like this.

    “3. All accounts owned and controlled by Imole during his lifetime were immediately put on a Post No Debit order on the 12th of September 2023. This order remains valid till date. These accounts will be properly handed over to the family upon resolution of the internal dispute.”
