The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State has escalated following the rejection of a 16-member caretaker committee announced by a faction of the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee. The faction, reportedly led by Nyesom Wike, said the committee, chaired by Victor Falack, was constituted to oversee party affairs for 30 days or until a new executive is elected.
The faction maintained that the committee was created to stabilize the party’s structure in Taraba and ensure compliance with the party constitution. However, the announcement was quickly dismissed by the recognized state leadership of the PDP, which described the caretaker committee as “false, misleading and unauthorized.”
In a statement signed by the state chapter’s Media and Publicity Officer, Herbert Faith Bello, the leadership accused the faction of attempting to create confusion and tension among party members. The statement emphasized that the move had no constitutional standing and did not reflect the position of the legitimate state leadership.
The PDP in Taraba reaffirmed that its structure remains intact under Acting Chairman Obidah Bitrus. The state chapter assured members that it is fully committed to upholding the party constitution and principles of internal democracy, advising the public to disregard the caretaker committee announcement entirely.
Party members and stakeholders are awaiting clarification from the national leadership to determine the legality and political implications of the competing claims.
