Security was heightened across major prayer grounds and mosques in Jos, Plateau State, on Wednesday as Muslim faithful marked the Eid-el-Kabir celebration peacefully.
At the Eid prayer ground in Tudun Wada near Secretariat Junction, security operatives were heavily deployed to maintain law and order during the festivities. Worshippers commended the calm atmosphere and the visible presence of security personnel.
A resident, Mohammed El Cash, praised the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful celebration, while similar commendations came from worshippers at the Dogon Karfe Mosque, including Jelili Kilamani Tijami, who described the arrangements as effective and reassuring.
At the Fibre Mosque in the Old Airport area of Jos, Muslim faithful also observed prayers peacefully under tight security monitoring.
The increased security presence followed measures earlier announced by the Plateau State Police Command ahead of the Sallah and Childrenβs Day celebrations.
Police spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah, said the command had strengthened its security architecture to guarantee peaceful celebrations across the state.
The police also imposed a temporary restriction on commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke-Napep, within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis on May 27 and 28, 2026, citing the need to prevent criminal activities during the festive period.
Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang congratulated Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urged residents to continue promoting peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence.
In a statement signed by Commissioner for Information and Communication Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the governor described Eid-el-Kabir as a period that reflects sacrifice, obedience, love, and submission to the will of Allah. He encouraged residents to celebrate responsibly and support efforts aimed at sustaining peace and development in the state.
Separately, APC Plateau Central Senatorial flag bearer, David Barji, extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslims in Plateau State and across Nigeria.
Barji said the festival symbolises faith, sacrifice, humility, and devotion to God, adding that its lessons of tolerance, kindness, and generosity are essential for peaceful coexistence and national progress. He also urged Nigerians to remember widows, orphans, and vulnerable persons during the celebration while praying for peace, security, and stability in the country.
