“Tinubu’s ₦712Bn Airport Renovation Is a National Insult” ADC

Date:

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has slammed the Tinubu-led federal government over its decision to commit over ₦712 billion to renovate the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, describing the move as reckless, elitist, and tone-deaf to the realities facing Nigerians.

In a statement issued Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the project represents a gross misplacement of priorities in a country battling worsening poverty, underfunded schools, collapsing healthcare systems, and widespread unemployment.

“This ₦712 billion airport facelift is yet another glaring example of careless spending by a government completely disconnected from the everyday struggles of ordinary Nigerians,” the statement read.

The party questioned the logic of injecting such a massive sum into an airport that has already undergone recent upgrades, while basic infrastructure across the country remains neglected.

Rather than pumping billions into what it termed “a vanity terminal,” the ADC said what the aviation sector truly needs is:

  • Efficient maintenance of existing infrastructure,

  • Investment in regional airports to boost domestic connectivity,

  • And a rethinking of aviation policy that serves the broader population, not just the elite.

“This isn’t about improving aviation

it’s about flaunting opulence while the country crumbles,” the party concluded.
