Tribunal’s verdict on Tinubu’s election, victory for democracy –Sankara

Date:

Senator Danladi Sankara who represented Jigawa North West in the 7th and 9th Senate, has hailed the verdict of Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT, affirming the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

PEPT had in unanimous judgment delivered on Wednesday in Abuja, struck out all grounds of cases filled against Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC by the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party, LP counterpart, Mr. Peter Obi.

Reacting to the judgment in a personally signed statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja, Senator Sankara said “it is victory for democracy.”

He noted that even laymen knew that all the issues canvassed by the opposition to question the election of Tinubu and the vice president, Senator Kashim Shettima were all pre-election matters which have been thrashed out by various courts even before the general elections.

“All the glory be to Allah for this well deserved victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima at the election tribunal.

“This development has, as expected, validated their election and this will further strengthen their resolve and capacity as leaders to provide the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

“I would want to seize this opportunity to implore Nigerians to rally round the president and vice president and offer all the needed support to accelerate the development of the country,” Senator Sankara stated.

He, therefore, counseled the opposition elements and petitioners to think deeply about Nigeria and discard actions or activities that would distract the duly elected leaders from effectively discharging their constitutional duties.

The former lawmaker said: “It is very important at this point in time for everyone particularly the opposition to team up with the the winners of the election for collaborative efforts for the progress of Nigeria.

“As you can see, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu together with the Vice President Kashim Shettima have extended warm invitation to everyone to come forward and jointly contribute to the task of nation building.”
