Several bandits and military personnel have been killed in fierce clashes during counter-terrorism operations in Niger and Kaduna States, the Nigerian Army announced on Wednesday.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Army said the operations took place in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka in Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The military disclosed that the clashes followed unprovoked attacks by armed groups in the affected areas.
In response, troops from both land and air components launched coordinated counter-attacks, resulting in the deaths of several insurgents.
“Sadly, some gallant warriors paid the supreme price in the day-long battles,” the statement read, adding that four wounded soldiers are currently receiving treatment for gunshot injuries.
The Army did not disclose the number of casualties among its personnel or provide a specific figure for the bandits killed.
Authorities assured that further updates on the operations would be provided as more information becomes available.
The incident is the latest in a series of engagements between Nigerian security forces and armed groups operating across the North-Central and North-West regions.
The Nigerian military has intensified counter-insurgency operations in recent months, particularly in states experiencing frequent attacks by bandits and other non-state actors.
