The University of Ilorin has further cemented its legacy of excellence in legal education with the elevation of two of its alumni, Prof. Mubarak Tijani Adekilekun and Mr. Habeeb AbdulRahman Oredola, to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The duo were among the 57 legal practitioners announced by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) as recipients of the revered title, regarded as the highest professional honour in Nigeria’s legal community. The announcement was made on Thursday, July 24, 2025, by the LPPC Secretary and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr. Kabir Eniola Akanbi, at the conclusion of the Committee’s 169th meeting held at the Supreme Court Complex in Abuja.
Prof. Adekilekun, a faculty member at the Department of Business Law, and Mr. Oredola, a prominent Lagos-based lawyer, earned their law degrees from the University of Ilorin in 2003 and 2005, respectively. Their selection followed a rigorous screening process involving over 70 applicants from across the country. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for September 29, 2025, at the Supreme Court, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motomori Kekere-Ekun, GCON.
Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, expressed pride and joy at the recognition of the two alumni. In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor praised the duo as exemplary legal professionals whose achievements reflect the high standards of the institution.
Prof. Egbewole, who taught both honourees during their undergraduate studies, said their elevation is a testament to their competence, dedication, and contribution to the legal profession. He described their SAN conferment as a fitting tribute to the University’s upcoming Golden Jubilee.
“This recognition is not only a personal triumph for the recipients but also a collective honour for the University community,” he said. “We are confident that more of our alumni will continue to ascend to such heights, reaffirming the academic rigor and values instilled in our students.”
He encouraged current students and alumni of the institution to remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence, emphasizing that the University’s best days lie ahead.
