UNILORIN Alumnus Named Among World’s Top 2% Scientists

Date:

A distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin, Mr. Stephen Emmanuel, has been listed among the world’s top two percent of most influential scientists in the latest global ranking jointly released by Stanford University and Elsevier.

The ranking, which recognizes outstanding global researchers across various scientific disciplines, highlights Mr. Emmanuel’s significant contributions to the fields of materials and environmental chemistry.

In his reaction, Mr. Emmanuel expressed deep gratitude to God, his wife, Mrs. Ademidun Emmanuel, his parents, mentors, friends, family, and the University of Ilorin for providing the strong academic foundation that shaped his scientific journey.

“This global recognition serves as motivation to continue contributing to science for sustainable development,” he said.

Following the announcement, Mr. Emmanuel received numerous congratulatory messages from eminent academics, including the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Ilorin, Professor Abdullahi Alafara Baba; the pioneer Editor-in-Chief of the U6+ Journal and former Head of the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Professor Hussein Kehinde Okoro; and the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Nile University of Nigeria, Dr. Adekunle Adeleke.

Mr. Emmanuel obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Industrial Chemistry — graduating with distinction — from the University of Ilorin, where his academic brilliance and research potential became evident early.

He has since built a distinguished research career with a focus on materials and environmental chemistry, particularly in the areas of advanced materials for water remediation and biomass waste valorization.

Mr. Emmanuel noted that he is open to international collaborations and research grants aimed at promoting green technologies, circular economy solutions, and sustainable environmental development.

His inclusion in the Stanford–Elsevier list not only affirms his rising global influence but also reinforces the University of Ilorin’s reputation for producing world-class researchers and innovators.
