UNILORIN Law Faculty Admission Quota Raised to 210

Date:

The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has increased the admission quota for the Faculty of Law at the University of Ilorin to 210 students.

The decision was made during the CLE’s first quarterly meeting of 2026, chaired by Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, on Wednesday, January 7, at the Council’s headquarters in Abuja.

The upward revision, which also applied to Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, and Madonna University, Okija, was based on CLE’s assessment of the institutions’ infrastructure, staffing, and compliance with prescribed academic standards. The quotas for the two private universities were raised to 100 students each.

Reacting to the development, UNILORIN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, described the increase as “cheering news” and a “remarkable New Year gift” to the University community.

Prof. Egbewole, speaking through the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, said the Faculty is well-equipped and staffed to accommodate the additional students. He added that the move would help the University produce more competent lawyers for the nation.

The Vice Chancellor also commended the management and staff of the Faculty for their dedication, which contributed to the upward review. He highlighted that the Faculty has the highest number of Ph.D. holders among its lecturers compared with peer institutions nationwide.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Bashir Omipidan, expressed his excitement over the development, describing it as a testament to the visionary leadership of Prof. Egbewole and his team. He said the increase moves the University into the league of institutions admitting over 200 law students annually.

Prof. Omipidan attributed the revision to improved facilities and resources developed by the Faculty over the past three years and praised both academic and non-teaching staff for their hard work. He also thanked alumni and predecessors for their contributions.

Students of the Faculty welcomed the announcement, noting that the increased quota would encourage more candidates to pursue their law degrees at UNILORIN. Students Abdulsamad Oladimeji Imam and Aishat Dolapo Baba expressed gratitude to the University authorities and Faculty staff for their efforts.

The CLE’s decision reflects the growing capacity and rising profile of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ilorin, reinforcing its role in producing qualified legal professionals for national development.
