The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commended the 1995 Medical Graduates of the institution for their outstanding achievements and continued support to their alma mater.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the alumni to his office on Friday, July 18, 2025, Prof. Egbewole lauded their commitment to service, describing them as global trailblazers and model ambassadors of the University.
“Climbing the ladder is an understatement. Many of you have excelled globally. The projects you have undertaken on behalf of this University are deeply appreciated,” the Vice Chancellor said. He emphasised that their acts of giving back stemmed not only from capacity but also from genuine commitment, a trait he said not all successful individuals possess.
Prof. Egbewole also commended the alumni for holding their 30th anniversary reunion on campus, coinciding with UNILORIN’s Golden Jubilee. He encouraged them to consider initiating additional legacy projects as part of their celebrations.
While acknowledging similar recognition of the 1984 alumni set, the Vice Chancellor noted that the 1995 set had equally earned a place in the University’s history for their generosity and lasting impact.
On transcript processing, Prof. Egbewole assured the alumni that major reforms had been introduced. He revealed that transcripts for graduates from 2005 onwards are now processed in under ten minutes. For earlier graduates, he disclosed that a dedicated task force has been set up to digitise records and eliminate delays.
“We’ve made transcript reform a key part of our 50th anniversary projects,” he said, adding that a transcript helpdesk had also been established to enhance communication and resolve issues promptly.
Earlier, Dr. Razaq, President of the 1995 medical class and leader of the Ilorin University Medical Students’ Association (ILUMSA), described the reunion as a celebration of enduring bonds and collective purpose.
“Our class is special. Some travelled from the US, UK, Canada, Thailand, and Australia. Even those who couldn’t make it are watching live,” he said. “We are proud of our roots and remain committed to supporting current students.”
Dr. Razaq also praised the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. S.A. Alabi, for his leadership and support of the alumni’s projects, despite not being a member of the 1995 set.
He, however, urged the University to upgrade its transcript services to meet global standards, citing the efficiency of similar systems at international institutions.
Prof. Lukman Abdulrahman, also a member of the 1995 set, shared fond memories and recalled that the class had previously donated over ₦10 million worth of digital infrastructure during the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that the class has now donated a 15KVA solar-powered inverter and is considering more initiatives.
